The Reeve Family of Awsworth, Nottinghamshire

My great, great grandmother Alice Reeve was born in the village of Awsworth, Nottinghamshire on 12th March 1835  She was the daughter of William Reeve and Amy Lees.  On the Census returns of 1841 Awsworth was classed as a hamlet rather than a village and William (b. 1796) and Amy (b. 1800)  are living on Awsworth Lane with their children Thomas (22), Susanna (17), Henry (14), Joseph (12),  Sarah (9), Alice (7), Fanny (4) and William (2).  William and three of his sons, Thomas, Henry and Joseph are colliers.  Susanna is a lace worker.  In 1851 the family are still on Awsworth Lane.  The older children have left home and living with William and Amy are Alice (16), Fanny (13), William (12), Richard (9), and Jane (7).  By 1861 the family are living on Ilkeston Road with William, Richard and Jane still living at home with two lodgers making up the household.  In 1841, 51 and 61 there are other Reeve families in the hamlet but by 1871 there are no Reeves listed at all.  In 1858 Alice had a daughter Sarah Ann (father unknown) and on 25th December 1860 she married my great, great grandfather Joseph Limb at the church in Awsworth (see Limb Family). William Reeve, the son of James Reeve and Sarah Shaw,  married Amy Lees on 30th December 1817.  She was the daughter of Thomas Lees and Ann Davies and was born at Eastwood, Notts.  William died on 7th September 1867 and Amy on 21 March 1874 according to their gravestone in Awsworth churchyard.   Alice died at Warren Terrace Shirebrook on 17 April 1903.  Both she and her husband Joseph Limb are buried in Awsworth churchyard.  There is no memorial stone.
